Blending restoration with new build homes

In Writtle, Essex, our team took on a massive six-month transformation project, turning an old hospital into a stunning residential area that blends an urban aesthetic with lush greenery, giving it an elegant and premium feel second only to mansions and estates.

We worked closely with the building firm and their landscape architectural designs to maximise space and integrate as many soft and hard landscaping elements as possible.

For this project, we added pavings, driveways, paths, and even emergency access areas made from grass-crete, which combines a concrete grid system and soil to grow grass that not only looks fantastic but also makes mobility much easier for emergency responders in case of an emmergency.

Our biggest challenge was working around the tight space and expanding it as much as possible for movement and storage. We successfully accomplished our motto of ‘On time, on spec, on budget’!

The client’s positive satisfaction with our work has extended to us continuing work on the project to this day in the form of maintenance and optimisation.

The Phipps team is still on the frontline at Writtle, doing regular repairs, delivery, and improving the landscape bit by bit to maintain a mature and aesthetically pleasing environment.
